5th Session of Boi-Soi Samiti
On 2nd
December,2022 ‘Boi-Soi’ Club organized their 5th book-talk at 3:15pm
in Rabindra Nir. This was very special because for the 1st time
someone from outside the college came to share their passion for books with us.
The program was started
with an introduction of our club by the Librarian. After that Ankita Samanta,
member of the club started the main event with a few words of gratitude.
1st book-talk
was on Alice Walker’s novel The Color
Purple. This novel tells the story of a young girl named Celie and her
journey from silence to voice, childhood to adulthood; it also deals with
issues like rape, child-marriage, abusive relationships, etc. Madhurima Dey (English
Department, Ashutosh College) caught the audience’s attention from the very
beginning with her mesmerizing words. She also discussed other important topics
related to the novel, like- feminism, black-feminism, American history.
Overall, it was a detailed, informative, and emotional book-talk.
The 2nd talk
was on Sanjib Chattopadhyay’s two short stories “Ruku Suku” and “Nijer Dhak
Nije Petale”. After disusing about such
heavy topics on the 1st talk Sayani’s words were like a sweet
dessert after a spicy meal. The 1st story was about two brothers and
their relationship growing up; the other one was about our beloved character ‘Baro
mama’ and his unusual way of viewing life. Sayani’s energetic and funny
presentation made the discussion even more enjoyable.
The question-answer
session was very engaging. After that Prof Soumydeep Chakraborty told us about
the difference between paper presentation and book-talk and how one could
improve their skill in both fields. Dr. Bibhas Chand discussed about how to
read and appreciate the book cover.
The Librarian ended the
program with thanking everyone.
The next book-talk will
be held at the end of January 2023.
